Let me plan for you

As you remember from the previous post, we were coming to Belgrade by a track with a driver who was that kind that agreed to wait for our host with us. He didn’t really trust people in Serbian capital and his stories about local people make me awe.

Milos came for us and I took a brave step towards him. He was with his best friend, whom he asked to come from a completely opposite part of the city in order to pick us up. We went for a long walk in the downtown, enjoying warm Serbian sunset and listening to stories about the country’s politics and history. It turned out Serbians are extremely pro-Russian people (not our host 😉 due to NATO bombing in 1999. Yugoslavia got incredible loss in financial and human meaning. People’s perception of the world had been changed and enemies became friends, and the aliens turned into executioners.

After long walks and talks, we dropped in at his friend’s home, where we had a chance to see the culture by Rakia. It can be just a quick first impression, but people were unbelievably friendly and easy-going. The friend’s wife was trying to recall some Russian phrases, her husband was curious about our countries and was shocked by the fact we travel alone. They couldn’t stop asking us about our future plans and invited to come for a coffee one day when we will be back.

My friend and I stayed with Milos one day longer…

… then we were planning and I just had a chance to talk to him about not easy Serbian life and his background. Milos has been traveling the world as crazy. He has already been five or six times to the US. That wasn’t vacation at all. He has got used to working in the Western country for 14-18 hours daily, combining 3 works. Why? Just to earn and travel. He has explored the United States, met people all over the world, partied with them, talked about every single issue, and his desire to see more was just growing from day to day.

– It’s impossible to earn normal money in Serbia. We don’t get any investments or donations from the UE. People are poor and in-boxed. That’s why I work like hell in States and then make my dreams come true.

He has slept in a capsule hotel in Japan, traveled one of the fastest trains in the world, seen colorful streets of Morocco, talked to locals in South Korea and knows every spot worth to put a tent and spend the night under the stars in Montenegro or Croatia. In calm evenings he sits and plans his next trips to Spain and Western countries.

We’ve got  an impression that in all situations where it seemed to be just black-and-white, Milos simply said: “Wait, wait, there is another side of it!” And we just loved that characteristic of looking at the things from another point of view, from another perspective and just trying to understand how people might think on the opposite side of the globe.

His house was always opened for the travelers.

– I stopped using Couchsurfing as people just call me and ask for sleepovers for their friends. When I’m out of the country, my other friends rent it hosting couchsurfers. It might be a real party place when I’m on the go.

Says Milos and brings one more cheese break for us.

I consider such people simply as out-bubbled citizens of the world!

Thank you, Milos!
